Current opt-out methods for USAA mail
-
PaperKarma app
Photograph the USAA mailer. PaperKarma files the opt-out for you.
Once you opt out of this sender, you can opt out of 100,000+ other mailers in the same app.
-
Phone
Call USAA at +1-800-531-7154. Ask them to stop postal marketing for the name and address on the mailer.
A phone request can take 5 to 10 minutes or longer, depending on the phone tree, hold time, and whether they offer a callback.
What to Expect After Opting Out
- Allow 8 to 12 weeks. Print runs are scheduled in advance. An offer already labeled can still arrive.
- Account mail is separate. Stopping promotional offers does not stop policy, billing, or claims mail.
- Prescreened offers are a different list. Firm offers of credit or insurance also run through OptOutPrescreen.
Why Do You Receive USAA Mail?
United Services Automobile Association is a San Antonio insurance and banking company for the military community. Twenty-five Army officers formed it in 1922 so they could buy auto insurance other companies would not write. Members include active duty, veterans, and their families. The leftover mail is an offer, not a policy or a statement.
They use member information for marketing. You get this mail if you are a member, applied, or landed on a list they use. The leftover offer is often a product you already hold. Garrison or another USAA-named company is a different sender. You do not need a new application. Use the name and address exactly as printed on the mailer.
How to Prevent General Junk Mail Proactively
-
DMAchoice
DMAchoice is the Association of National Advertisers' mail preference service. An $8 registration asks about 1,100 participating national companies to suppress your address from prospect promotional mail for 10 years. It does not cover local mailers, charity appeals, companies you already buy from, or occupant / current-resident saturation mail. Allow 90 days or longer.
-
OptOutPrescreen
OptOutPrescreen is the official Consumer Credit Reporting Industry site. It lets you opt out of firm offers of credit and insurance for 5 years or permanently.
-
PaperKarma
For local and regional mailers, coupon packs, charity donation requests, and the large share of junk mail that DMAchoice does not cover, the PaperKarma app has the largest U.S. registry, with over 100,000 mailers on file.
Your Data Privacy Rights (CCPA & Beyond)
A promotional opt-out stops USAA marketing mail. It does not always stop the underlying address from being shared. If you live in a state with an active consumer privacy law (California’s CCPA and several others), you can request access to or deletion of your personal information, and you can opt out of sale, share, or targeted advertising.
Call +1-800-531-7154 and ask for a deletion or do-not-share request, and to opt out of postal marketing.
Frequently asked questions
How long until USAA mail stops?
Allow 8 to 12 weeks. Print runs are scheduled in advance. If an offer arrives during that window, it was likely already printed and labeled before your request was processed. Policy, billing, and claims mail can still arrive. Prescreened credit and insurance offers also run through OptOutPrescreen.
How do I stop USAA mail for a previous resident?
Call USAA at +1-800-531-7154 and include that person’s name and this address, or use the PaperKarma app to scan the mailer, mark the recipient as a previous resident, and submit the opt-out. Do not mark the person as deceased unless they are deceased.
Will USAA mail stop if I move?
Not automatically. Marketing lists are tied to a specific name and address. A USPS forward can send a few more packets to the new address. Call again for the new address, or use the PaperKarma app there.
