Current opt-out methods for Discover mail
-
PaperKarma app
Photograph the Discover mailer. PaperKarma files the opt-out for you.
Once you opt out of this sender, you can opt out of 100,000+ other mailers in the same app.
-
Phone
Call Discover at +1-800-347-2683. Ask them to stop postal marketing for the name and address on the mailer.
A phone request can take 5 to 10 minutes or longer, depending on the phone tree, hold time, and whether they offer a callback.
What to Expect After Opting Out
- Allow 8 to 12 weeks. Print runs are scheduled in advance. An offer already labeled can still arrive.
- Statements are separate. Stopping promotional offers does not stop statements or other account mail.
- Prescreened offers are a different list. Firm offers of credit or insurance also run through OptOutPrescreen.
Why Do You Receive Discover Mail?
Discover started at Sears in 1985 as a no-annual-fee card with cashback. Sears later spun the card off with Dean Witter. Discover is now a division of Capital One, N.A. Capital One closed the purchase in 2025 and still issues Discover-branded cards. Discover also owned the PULSE and Diners Club networks before that deal. The leftover mail is a card or loan offer, not a statement.
You get that mail if you have a Discover card or loan, applied, or landed on a list they use. The leftover offer is often a card you already declined. Occupant, Postal Customer, or Current Resident addressing is saturation on a different file.
How to Prevent General Junk Mail Proactively
-
DMAchoice
DMAchoice is the Association of National Advertisers' mail preference service. An $8 registration asks about 1,100 participating national companies to suppress your address from prospect promotional mail for 10 years. It does not cover local mailers, charity appeals, companies you already buy from, or occupant / current-resident saturation mail. Allow 90 days or longer.
NOTE: DMAchoice will not stop mail from Discover as it is not an active member of the ANA.
-
OptOutPrescreen
OptOutPrescreen is the official Consumer Credit Reporting Industry site. It lets you opt out of firm offers of credit and insurance for 5 years or permanently.
-
PaperKarma
For local and regional mailers, coupon packs, charity donation requests, and the large share of junk mail that DMAchoice does not cover, the PaperKarma app has the largest U.S. registry, with over 100,000 mailers on file.
Your Data Privacy Rights (CCPA & Beyond)
A promotional opt-out stops Discover marketing mail. It does not always stop the underlying address from being shared. If you live in a state with an active consumer privacy law (California’s CCPA and several others), you can request access to or deletion of your personal information, and you can opt out of sale, share, or targeted advertising.
Call +1-800-347-2683 and ask for a deletion or do-not-share request, and to opt out of postal marketing.
Frequently asked questions
How long until Discover mail stops?
Allow 8 to 12 weeks. Print runs are scheduled in advance. If an offer arrives during that window, it was likely already printed and labeled before your request was processed. Statements can still arrive. Prescreened credit and insurance offers also run through OptOutPrescreen.
How do I stop Discover mail for a previous resident?
Call Discover at +1-800-347-2683 and include that person’s name and this address, or use the PaperKarma app to scan the mailer, mark the recipient as a previous resident, and submit the opt-out. Do not mark the person as deceased unless they are deceased.
Will Discover mail stop if I move?
Not automatically. Marketing lists are tied to a specific name and address. A USPS forward can send a few more packets to the new address. Call again for the new address, or use the PaperKarma app there.
