Current opt-out methods for H&R Block mail

  1. PaperKarma app

Photograph the H&R Block offer. PaperKarma files the opt-out for you.

Once you opt out of this sender, you can opt out of 100,000+ other mailers in the same app.

  2. Phone

Call H&R Block at +1-800-472-5625. Ask them to stop promotional mail for the name and address on the mailer.

A phone request can take 5 to 10 minutes or longer, depending on the phone tree, hold time, and whether they offer a callback.

What to Expect After Opting Out

  • Allow 8 to 12 weeks. Print runs are scheduled in advance. An offer already labeled can still arrive.
  • Tax filings are separate. Stopping promotional mail does not stop a return, amendment, or refund letter on work you already paid for.
  • A later list add-back can start it again. A later office visit or online start can put the address back on a file.

Why Do You Receive H&R Block Mail?

H&R Block is a tax-prep company with about 12,000 retail offices worldwide. Henry W. Bloch and Richard A. Bloch started it in Kansas City in July 1955 after the IRS stopped preparing free returns there. They had been running United Business Company, a small-business bookkeeping shop Henry opened with brother Leon in 1946. A Kansas City Star ad filled the office the next day. They spelled the shop Block because Bloch was hard to say. Richard pushed New York next, and in 1956 they opened seven offices near IRS locations. The leftover mail is a tax-season offer, not a return you already filed.

You get that mail if you filed with them, walked into an office, or landed on a list they mail. The leftover offer is often a reminder after you already used another preparer.

How to Prevent General Junk Mail Proactively

  1. DMAchoice

DMAchoice is the Association of National Advertisers' mail preference service. An $8 registration asks about 1,100 participating national companies to suppress your address from prospect promotional mail for 10 years. It does not cover local mailers, charity appeals, companies you already buy from, or occupant / current-resident saturation mail. Allow 90 days or longer.

  2. OptOutPrescreen

OptOutPrescreen is the official Consumer Credit Reporting Industry site. It lets you opt out of firm offers of credit and insurance for 5 years or permanently.

NOTE: OptOutPrescreen will not opt you out of H&R Block mail. It only covers prescreened credit card and insurance offers.

  3. PaperKarma

For local and regional mailers, coupon packs, charity donation requests, and the large share of junk mail that DMAchoice does not cover, the PaperKarma app has the largest U.S. registry, with over 100,000 mailers on file.

Your Data Privacy Rights (CCPA & Beyond)

A promotional opt-out stops H&R Block marketing mail. It does not always stop the underlying address from being shared. If you live in a state with an active consumer privacy law (California’s CCPA and several others), you can request access to or deletion of your personal information, and you can opt out of sale, share, or targeted advertising.

Go to H&R Block’s privacy contact page, or call +1-800-472-5625, and ask for a deletion or do-not-share request, and to opt out of promotional mail.

Frequently asked questions

How long until H&R Block mail stops?

Allow 8 to 12 weeks. Print runs are scheduled in advance. If an offer arrives during that window, it was likely already printed and labeled before your request was processed. A return or refund letter on work you already paid for can still arrive.

How do I stop H&R Block mail for a previous resident?

Call H&R Block at +1-800-472-5625 and include that person’s name and this address, or use the PaperKarma app to scan the mailer, mark the recipient as a previous resident, and submit the opt-out. Do not mark the person as deceased unless they are deceased.

Will H&R Block mail stop if I move?

Not automatically. Marketing lists are tied to a specific name and address. A USPS forward can send a few more packets to the new address. Call again for the new address, or use the PaperKarma app there.
