Current opt-out methods for Bank of America mail
-
PaperKarma app
Photograph the Bank of America mailer. PaperKarma files the opt-out for you.
Once you opt out of this sender, you can opt out of 100,000+ other mailers in the same app.
-
Phone
Call Bank of America at +1-888-341-5000. Ask them to stop postal marketing for the name and address on the mailer. If you have more than one Bank of America product, say so.
A phone request can take 5 to 10 minutes or longer, depending on the phone tree, hold time, and whether they offer a callback.
What to Expect After Opting Out
- Allow 8 to 12 weeks. Print runs are scheduled in advance. An offer already labeled can still arrive. A postal-mail opt-out lasts five years.
- Statements are separate. Stopping promotional offers does not stop statements or other account mail.
- Prescreened offers are a different list. Firm offers of credit or insurance also run through OptOutPrescreen.
Why Do You Receive Bank of America Mail?
Bank of America traces the Bank of Italy to 1904, when A.P. Giannini opened it to bank people other houses would not take. The Bank of Italy took the Bank of America name in 1930. In 1958 they launched BankAmericard, the first modern revolving credit card. In 1998 Charlotte-based NationsBank merged with San Francisco’s BankAmerica and made the first coast-to-coast U.S. bank. The leftover mail is an offer, not a statement. A Merrill or partner-branded card may print a different name.
You get that mail if you have an account, applied, or landed on a list they use. The leftover offer is often a card you already declined.
How to Prevent General Junk Mail Proactively
-
DMAchoice
DMAchoice is the Association of National Advertisers' mail preference service. An $8 registration asks about 1,100 participating national companies to suppress your address from prospect promotional mail for 10 years. It does not cover local mailers, charity appeals, companies you already buy from, or occupant / current-resident saturation mail. Allow 90 days or longer.
NOTE: DMAchoice will not stop mail from Bank of America as it is not an active member of the ANA.
-
OptOutPrescreen
OptOutPrescreen is the official Consumer Credit Reporting Industry site. It lets you opt out of firm offers of credit and insurance for 5 years or permanently.
-
PaperKarma
For local and regional mailers, coupon packs, charity donation requests, and the large share of junk mail that DMAchoice does not cover, the PaperKarma app has the largest U.S. registry, with over 100,000 mailers on file.
Your Data Privacy Rights (CCPA & Beyond)
A promotional opt-out stops Bank of America marketing mail. It does not always stop the underlying address from being shared. If you live in a state with an active consumer privacy law (California’s CCPA and several others), you can request access to or deletion of your personal information, and you can opt out of sale, share, or targeted advertising.
Call +1-888-341-5000 and ask for a deletion or do-not-share request, and to opt out of postal marketing.
Frequently asked questions
How long until Bank of America mail stops?
Allow 8 to 12 weeks. Print runs are scheduled in advance. If an offer arrives during that window, it was likely already printed and labeled before your request was processed. Statements can still arrive. Prescreened credit and insurance offers also run through OptOutPrescreen.
How do I stop Bank of America mail for a previous resident?
Call Bank of America at +1-888-341-5000 and include that person’s name and this address, or use the PaperKarma app to scan the mailer, mark the recipient as a previous resident, and submit the opt-out. Do not mark the person as deceased unless they are deceased.
Will Bank of America mail stop if I move?
Not automatically. Marketing lists are tied to a specific name and address. A USPS forward can send a few more packets to the new address. Call again for the new address, or use the PaperKarma app there.
