Email request
Use the Email option on this page and ask Unitarian Universalist Association to stop promotional postal mail. Include the full name and mailing address you want removed. Copy the template below, fill the bracketed fields, and attach a photo of the mailer if you have one.
If sending your opt-out request by email, use this helpful template for Unitarian Universalist Association:
Hello, I'm writing to request that Unitarian Universalist Association permanently remove my address from all direct mail lists, including your internal house list and any rented or third-party lists used to source your mailings. The name and address to remove as they appear on a recently delivered unwanted mailer: [NAME] [ADDRESS] [CITY ST ZIP] A few notes for your direct mail team: • I have never subscribed to marketing communications from Unitarian Universalist Association. • Since I haven't opted in with you directly, the source is most likely a rented or co-op list. Please also flag this address with your list partners so it's suppressed at the source. Please confirm in writing once the suppression is complete. I've attached an image of the mailer for reference. Thank you, [NAME]
Replace the bracketed fields ([NAME], [ADDRESS], [CITY ST ZIP]) before sending. Attach a photo of the mailer if you have one, and keep the reply for your records.

Phone
Call Unitarian Universalist Association at +1-617-742-2100. Ask them to stop fundraising mail and UU World magazine for the name and address on the mailer.
A phone request can take 5 to 10 minutes or longer, depending on the phone tree, hold time, and whether they offer a callback.
What to Expect After Opting Out
- Allow 8 to 12 weeks. Print runs are scheduled in advance. An appeal or magazine already labeled can still arrive.
- Receipts are separate. Stopping fundraising mail does not stop a donor receipt if you gave.
- A later gift can start it again. A later donation or UU World subscription can put the address back on a file.
Why Do You Receive Unitarian Universalist Association Mail?
The Unitarian Universalist Association is the central organization for Unitarian Universalist congregations in the United States. Universalists organized in 1793 and Unitarians in 1825. They joined as the UUA in 1961. They grew from liberal religious pioneers in England, Poland, and Transylvania. More than 1,000 member congregations set their own ministers and priorities, and they vote for the UUA leaders who run the Boston staff at 24 Farnsworth Street. The leftover mail is a fundraising appeal or a UU World magazine, not a receipt for a gift you already sent.
You get that mail if you belong to a congregation, subscribed to UU World, donated, or landed on a list they keep. Address and UU World changes go through Data Services. A later gift can put the address back on.
How to Prevent General Junk Mail Proactively
-
DMAchoice
DMAchoice is the Association of National Advertisers' mail preference service. An $8 registration asks about 1,100 participating national companies to suppress your address from prospect promotional mail for 10 years. It does not cover local mailers, charity appeals, companies you already buy from, or occupant / current-resident saturation mail. Allow 90 days or longer.
NOTE: DMAchoice will not stop mail from Unitarian Universalist Association as it is not an active member of the ANA.
-
OptOutPrescreen
OptOutPrescreen is the official Consumer Credit Reporting Industry site. It lets you opt out of firm offers of credit and insurance for 5 years or permanently.
NOTE: OptOutPrescreen will not opt you out of Unitarian Universalist Association mail. It only covers prescreened credit card and insurance offers.
-
PaperKarma
For local and regional mailers, coupon packs, charity donation requests, and the large share of junk mail that DMAchoice does not cover, the PaperKarma app has the largest U.S. registry, with over 100,000 mailers on file.
Your Data Privacy Rights (CCPA & Beyond)
A promotional opt-out stops Unitarian Universalist Association marketing mail. It does not always stop the underlying address from being shared. If you live in a state with an active consumer privacy law (California’s CCPA and several others), you can request access to or deletion of your personal information, and you can opt out of sale, share, or targeted advertising.
Go to the Privacy and Data Security Policy page, or call +1-617-742-2100, and ask for a deletion or do-not-share request, and to opt out of postal solicitation.
Frequently asked questions
How long until Unitarian Universalist Association mail stops?
Allow 8 to 12 weeks. Print runs are scheduled in advance. If an appeal or magazine arrives during that window, it was likely already printed and labeled before your request was processed. Donor receipts can still arrive if you gave.
How do I stop Unitarian Universalist Association mail for a previous resident?
Call Unitarian Universalist Association at +1-617-742-2100 and include that person’s name and this address, or use the PaperKarma app to scan the mailer, mark the recipient as a previous resident, and submit the opt-out. Do not mark the person as deceased unless they are deceased.
Will Unitarian Universalist Association mail stop if I move?
Not automatically. Marketing lists are tied to a specific name and address. A USPS forward can send a few more packets to the new address. Call again for the new address, or use the PaperKarma app there.
