Current opt-out methods for InfoUSA mail

  1. Email request

Use the Email option on this page and ask InfoUSA to stop promotional postal mail. Include the full name and mailing address you want removed. Copy the template below, fill the bracketed fields, and attach a photo of the mailer if you have one.

If sending your opt-out request by email, use this helpful template for InfoUSA:

    Hello,

I'm writing to request that InfoUSA permanently remove my address from all direct mail lists, including your internal house list and any rented or third-party lists used to source your mailings.

The name and address to remove as they appear on a recently delivered unwanted mailer:

    [NAME]
    [ADDRESS]
    [CITY ST ZIP]

A few notes for your direct mail team:

    • I have never subscribed to marketing communications from InfoUSA.
    • Since I haven't opted in with you directly, the source is most likely a rented or co-op list. Please also flag this address with your list partners so it's suppressed at the source.

Please confirm in writing once the suppression is complete. I've attached an image of the mailer for reference.

    Thank you,
    [NAME]

Replace the bracketed fields ([NAME], [ADDRESS], [CITY ST ZIP]) before sending. Attach a photo of the mailer if you have one, and keep the reply for your records.

  2. Privacy rights request

Go to Data Axle's Consumer Privacy Rights Request page. Choose Request to opt out of sale/sharing. Put the full name and street address as printed on the mailer.

  3. PaperKarma app

Photograph the InfoUSA mailer. PaperKarma files the opt-out for you.

Once you opt out of this sender, you can opt out of 100,000+ other mailers in the same app.

  4. Phone

Call InfoUSA at +1-800-835-5856. Ask them to stop selling or sharing your name and address for postal marketing, and to stop mail for the name and address on the mailer.

A phone request can take 5 to 10 minutes or longer, depending on the phone tree, hold time, and whether they offer a callback.

What to Expect After Opting Out

  • Allow 8 to 12 weeks. Print runs are scheduled in advance. An offer already labeled can still arrive.
  • Bills are separate. Stopping list-sold mail does not stop a bill from a brand that bought the file.
  • A later list add-back can start it again. A later compiler refresh or advertiser drop can put the address back on a file.

Why Do You Receive InfoUSA Mail?

Data Axle Inc. is the company behind InfoUSA mail. It opened in 1972 as American Business Information, ran as InfoUSA, and became Infogroup in 2008. They count five decades of B2B and B2C data work, more than 40,000 business and nonprofit clients, and compilation that includes outreach to millions of businesses. Privacy names affiliates including infoUSA Inc., Exact Data, DonorBase, Lake Group Media, Walter Karl, and Yesmail. They sell and share name and address so marketers can send postal, email, and display offers. The leftover mail is a list-sold offer or a shared-mail packet, not a bill.

You get that mail if a brand bought a Data Axle or InfoUSA file, or if a compiler appended the household. A later list refresh can put the address back on.

How to Prevent General Junk Mail Proactively

  1. DMAchoice

DMAchoice is the Association of National Advertisers' mail preference service. An $8 registration asks about 1,100 participating national companies to suppress your address from prospect promotional mail for 10 years. It does not cover local mailers, charity appeals, companies you already buy from, or occupant / current-resident saturation mail. Allow 90 days or longer.

NOTE: DMAchoice will not stop mail from InfoUSA as it is not an active member of the ANA.

  2. OptOutPrescreen

OptOutPrescreen is the official Consumer Credit Reporting Industry site. It lets you opt out of firm offers of credit and insurance for 5 years or permanently.

NOTE: OptOutPrescreen will not opt you out of InfoUSA mail. It only covers prescreened credit card and insurance offers.

  3. PaperKarma

For local and regional mailers, coupon packs, charity donation requests, and the large share of junk mail that DMAchoice does not cover, the PaperKarma app has the largest U.S. registry, with over 100,000 mailers on file.

Your Data Privacy Rights (CCPA & Beyond)

A promotional opt-out stops InfoUSA marketing mail. It does not always stop the underlying address from being shared. If you live in a state with an active consumer privacy law (California’s CCPA and several others), you can request access to or deletion of your personal information, and you can opt out of sale, share, or targeted advertising.

Go to the Privacy Policy page or the Consumer Privacy Rights Request page, or call +1-800-835-5856, and ask for a deletion or do-not-share request, and to opt out of postal marketing.

Frequently asked questions

How long until InfoUSA mail stops?

Allow 8 to 12 weeks. Print runs are scheduled in advance. If an offer arrives during that window, it was likely already printed and labeled before your request was processed.

How do I stop InfoUSA mail for a previous resident?

Call InfoUSA at +1-800-835-5856 and include that person’s name and this address, or use the PaperKarma app to scan the mailer, mark the recipient as a previous resident, and submit the opt-out. Do not mark the person as deceased unless they are deceased.

Will InfoUSA mail stop if I move?

Not automatically. Marketing lists are tied to a specific name and address. A USPS forward can send a few more packets to the new address. Call again for the new address, or use the PaperKarma app there.
